Emergency Tips

Toothache

Rinse well with warm water and use a cold compress for the swelling. Be sure to visit your dentist ASAP.

Chipped or Broken Tooth

Gather the broken pieces and place them in a clean, dry container.Rinse the remaining tooth with warm water. If an injury broke the tooth, place a cold compress on the area to help prevent swelling. See the dentist immediately.

Baby Tooth Gets Knocked Out

Make an appointment as soon as possible.

Permanent Tooth Gets Knocked Out

Avoid the roots and hold the tooth by the top. Avoid rubbing or running the tooth under tap water if dirty. Briefly clean it in a bowl of lukewarm tap water. It’s vital to keep the root’s surface cells alive and untouched as they’re needed for reattachment. Attempt to insert the tooth back into the socket by gently biting down on gauze or a moist paper towel. Try to keep the jaw shut and bite down until you reach your dentist. If you can’t insert your tooth into the socket, store it in your cheek, a small container of cold milk. Get into your dentist as soon as possible for treatment.
